Our Mission
This & That Jam is a small Chapel Hill-based preserves company with a two-part mission- to partner with local farms to make fresh jams and preserves, and to teach community members about the importance of canning and preserving seasonal goods.
Our Jams
Our jams are made with fresh, local, seasonal ingredients sourced from farms right here in North Carolina. Our goal is not to sell you a jar of strawberry jam, you can get that in a grocery store (though we bet ours would be better). Our goal is to open your eyes to the possibilities of preserving, with an ever-changing variety of fruits, vegetables and herbs that you may have never considered. Canning and preserving used to be a part of American culture, and it’s making a slow but very necessary comeback. We hope our flavors will inspire your culinary creations, and we’re happy to make suggestions. Just what DO you do with tomato jam? Well sure, you could spread it on a biscuit, but you could also pair it with a bowl of cheese grits, on top of scallion pancakes, mix it into oil and vinegar for a salad dressing, or layer it into your turkey sandwich.
Our Workshops
We’re trying to reinvigorate canning culture in America- it’s a lot of fun, but it’s not just a hobby. For a very long time it was simply an everyday part of life- a way to store food. We believe that the only way of moving towards a sustainable future is to teach everyone the skill of preserving seasonal foods. Peppers may not be available in January, but that doesn’t mean we should source them from another part of the world- we want to demonstrate that anyone can make delicious preserves that will be accessible in the pantry until next season. Our programs are available on a pay-what-you-can basis- no one will ever be turned away for lack of ability to pay. We are especially committed to targeting our workshops towards at-risk and low income populations, as food insecurity is a major problem in our state, and we want to teach people to use the resources they have.
